| W Britain Americana Series, Battle of New Orleans 1815, Captain & Ensign 93rd Regiment of Foot, Sutherland Highlanders. Mfd in 2003 by Ertl. It's the Battle of New Orleans 93rd Regiment Officer and Standard Bearer set from Wm Britains. This set depicts when Major General William Wemys raised the 93rd Regiment of Foot, better known as the Sutherland Highlanders, in the north of Scotland in 1799. Around 6:00 A.M. on January 8, 1815, Major General Sir Edward Pakenham, the British commander, hurled 3,400 of his finest troops in a frontal assault against the main American line behind the Rodriguez Canal. The Sutherland Highlanders were meant to advance as part of Major General John Keane’s 1,200-man brigade and strike the American left. Major General Sir Samuel Gibbs led his 2,200-man brigade against the American right. At the last minute, Pakenham ordered the 93rd Foot to angle oblique to the right to support Gibbs’ attack. The Sutherland Highlanders presented an especially tempting target as they angled across open ground with their left flank exposed to the enemy. At the end, 75% of the Highlanders were killed or wounded. | ||||
